It’s 11:55 p.m. on a Tuesday night, and I just got back from an evening with my friends. We painted our nails, ate some chocolate, and watched last night’s episode of The Bachelorette, so that people who hadn’t seen could catch up, and those that had, could reaffirm who they thought was going to take the prize at the end of the season. * As the night winded down, the idea of a swiftly-approaching future dominated our conversation. While some of us have moved back home after graduating college, some of us are zipping up backpacks to head off to grad school in the fall. Even more, some of us have accepted full-time positions while others have grown tired of adding companies to our “Jobs Applied” list without ever hearing a response (*ahem*).
Personally, I am about to embark on my first interview for full-time employment. While I’m mostly looking forward to getting the chance to bust out some of the business casual wear I have no other reason to wear, I’m a little scared. This is an unprecedented time in my life and I’m not entirely sure how to navigate it. Ultimately, I find comfort in the idea that my friends, who are all evolving as I do, are growing with me. We can talk apartment hunting, and what areas we think we’d live in and how long we’d like to work before applying for grad school in one moment, and still want to eat ice cream and laugh until we cry in the same breath. It’s refreshing to have an external support system that is as malleable as life can be.
Hug your friends, people! If you’re not growing together, you’re growing apart.
*Okay, heed my words: if Luke doesn’t win, Jordan is going to and Luke is going to be the next bachelor.
