I’ll be honest with ya, dear readers of The LipLiner: I feel like I’ve been running on E lately. Because I don’t have a full-time position, I’ve been working at my part-time job as much as I can to keep myself busy as I job hunt.
I’m grateful to be pulling full-time hours at my restaurant because I need to save as much money as I can before I acquire a full-time position in my field–one that will require lots of money for commuting and eventually lots of money for rent. The result of this has been 6 or 7 day work weeks with long and inconsistent hours. I love my job and I love working, so this doesn’t bother me at all. However, I do feel that it takes a toll on my creatively, and often I find it difficult to sit down and work on my creative writing or read for pleasure.
A conversation with a friend recently reminded me that it’s important not to lose sight of our passions, especially for short-term goals.
With that, I’m going to log off, find a pen, and daydream. I hope everyone reading this is too taking time for the things that make them grateful they’re alive.
