meat tooth crosses over to the dark (chocolate) side

There’s an old wives’ tale that says you will crave sweets if you’re pregnant with a girl, salts if you’re pregnant with a boy.  This is probably complete BS, but if there was ever proof anywhere, it was me when I was pregnant.

Now, it certainly wasn’t a self-fulfilling prophecy: we didn’t find out Isabelle was a girl until the day she popped out; nor was it “I’m pregnant and gonna get huge anyway, so screw it, chomp, chomp, chomp!” No.  I just had a serious jones for sweets when I was pregnant.  I probably ate more ice cream and cake (and cookies and cupcakes and candy) when I was pregnant than all the sweets I ever ate in the 35 years preceding the pregnancy.

unnamedOne memory that sticks out was a few days before Christmas in 2014.  Mike and I were in Williamsburg that year, and we went out to lunch with my parents one day at a place called the Water Street Grille in Yorktown.  (The picture attached was taken as I was eating dessert, after pigging out on a calamari app and generous plate of fish tacos.)

As I ate my gigantic dessert, Mike and my Dad were laughing so hard they were practically crying.  To know me would be to know that this scene was quite comical… First off, I was just beginning to embrace my inner sweet tooth and go hog wild with it.  Second, before I ordered the blackberry cheesecake, I told everyone they could have one bite, but if they wanted more, they better order their own dessert.  Third, when the cheesecake came out, it was gigantic (the pic actually makes it look small.)  Fourth, I jokingly/not-jokingly growled at Mike when he pretended to grab a second bite.

And fifth, it was just such a ridiculous scene.  Mom always used to comment how I “ate like a bird” when I was a kid/teenager.  When I grew up, I modified the comment:  “I eat like a bird and drink like a fish!”

Basically Mike and Dad just could not believe that I was capable of eating so much food in one sitting.  And they found it quite entertaining, obviously.

But hey, I was eating for two.  And baby Isabelle was in my tummy screaming “GIVE ME CHEESECAKE… LIKE FIVE MINUTES AGO!!!!!!!!”

The day Isabelle was born?  Sweet tooth was gone.

I mean, I do enjoy an ice cream cone here and there.  And I’ll always have a soft spot for those crack-infused Girl Scout cookies – Mmmmm samoas and thin mints…

Yeah, my sweet tooth turned off like a light switch when Isabelle was born… But damn, that was one delicious year!

unnamed-3My name is Suzanne Jacobetz, aka The Cursing Gourmet, and I am Bridget’s older (not necessarily wiser) cousin. I’m Generation X all the way and do not enjoy it when I hear 80s/90s rock on classic rock stations. I live in the mountains in Colorado with Mike, my husband of 10 years, 15+ miles from a grocery store. It’s a very quiet, peaceful life, or at least it used to be:  a year ago we had our first kiddo, a sweetie pie named Isabelle ❤️
